Join community and industry leaders at a day-long event to explore innovative techniques and best practices in building thriving and equitable transit communities. Learn how the region can make the most of new regional transit investments to create successful transit-oriented communities with housing affordable to all income levels.

Building Transit, Building Opportunity is intended for a broad audience drawn from local government, transportation and transit agencies, market rate and affordable housing developers, and community and social equity groups.

• Keynote speaker Marilyn Strickland, Mayor of Tacoma, Sound Transit Boardmember, ULI Trustee

• Plenary panels focused on Developers’ Perspectives on TOD, and New Roles for Sound Transit and other Transit Agencies in Promoting Equitable TOD

• Breakout panels on Improving the Pedestrian Realm in Station Areas, Case Studies of Best Practices in Planning and Development from around the region, and other topics

• Guided walking tours of Plaza Roberto Maestas and the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station Area

Registration is $25 and includes lunch. For organizations and individuals with limited financial means, there is a $5 Reduced Cost Registration available.

During registration, please let us know if you would like to go on a walking tour and indicate your preference in tours. Space is limited and we cannot guarantee all attendees will be able to go on their first-choice tour.

Plaza Roberto Maestas – Join El Centro de la Raza staff on a 60-minute walking tour of Plaza Roberto Maestas, an award winning equitable transit-oriented development. The tour will highlight the Plaza’s community services and amenities, as well as El Centro’s process to foster community and financial support for the project.

Beacon Hill Light Rail Station Area – Join City of Seattle Office of Planning and Community Development staff on a 60-minute walking tour of the Beacon Hill light rail station area. The tour will highlight successes and challenges with the street grid, parcel aggregation, nonconforming uses, and future development.
